Living with Grace

When she stepped off of the boat onto the Greek island she was surrounded by the Paparazzi, who thought Jackie Onassis had arrived. It was only my mother, Grace. I always thought she looked more like Elizabeth Taylor.

This December she celebrates her 88th birthday, and has begun a new chapter in her life. After living a busy and independent life, and a bad fall a month ago, she has moved into assisted living. It was something that we all feared, especially her. But my mother with her usual style and grace, has thankfully taken to her new surroundings. She is the "belle of the ball"!

Happy Birthday to this sweet lady, and all you other December babes,

  1. What a beautiful woman and what a gorgeous post for her!

  2. Bonjour. I have just found your blog. What a touching story about your mom. I hope she transitions smoothly into this new stage in her life, and she has you by her side! I will be honest, when I first saw the picture, and the beginning of your first sentence, I thought you were going to tell us about Grace Kelly arriving in the Monaco harbor in the 1950s before her wedding to Prince Rainier ;-) There is an old black and white picture there that immortalized the moment. Your mom and the other Grace had a lot in common! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  3. I thought immediately of Grace Kelly as well. What a lovely tribute to your mom. I hope she had a happy birthday & thanks for the wishes to all December birthdays. My granddaughter just turned 8 on Sunday & my daughter will celebrate her's on Christmas eve.
